I don't use GnuPG, I mainly use PGP V8, since my HD is pretty much a
PGPdisk (except for apps). It supports having several keyservers, and
my list, in order of search, is :

http (port 11371)
pgpkeys.mit.edu
minsky.surfnet.nl
keys.kadath.com.ar
keyserver.topnet.de
sks.dnsalias.net

ldap (port 11370)
pgp.surfnet.nl
wwwkeys.nl.pgp.net
horowitz.surfnet.nl
europe.keys.pgp.com

My own key is uploaded to pgpkeys.mit.edu

I don't use keyserver.pgp.com (and don't recomend it) since it's
downtime is around 99% :)
