It has recently come to our attention, thanks to Greg Strong, that Gmane has been archiving messages regardless of the setting of X-Archive expiry=0 header. Greg has stated that he believes this has been happening since Nov of 2004. After verifying that Greg has been correctly setting his X-Archive header and that there are messages of his that were archived on Gmane we contacted Lars Magne Ingebrigsten of Gmane to see what was going on. ,----- [ Lars Response ] | The past month or so expiry on Gmane hasn't been working. This is | due to a problem with the news server and LARGEFILE support. | | I plan on upgrading the news server either this weekend or the | next, and then this will start working again. (The backlog of | articles to be cancelled will then be processed.) `----- Messages which are now incorrectly archived with the X-Archive expiry0 header will automatically be removed once Lars has fixed the problem. If you post a message to the list prior to Lars upgrading the system, your message will be archived regardless of the X-Archive setting but will be removed once the upgrade is complete.
