Stuart, somehow this all seems a bit strange to me - that you can
reach the Gmail Web interface and ping Gmail servers but not use the
POP3 access. So please don't mind my making a few more suggestions and
asking a few questions.

1. Have you tried to access Gmail via POP3 from home, where there are
presumably no special firewalls or whatever that would block access?
If so, can you send and receive messages from TB? (Please don't forget
that messages you send to yourself - from the same Gmail account to
the same Gmail account - will not turn up in your inbox.)

2. Have you tried - alas and just as an experiment - to access Gmail
POP3 via Outlook Express, which has very clear and explicit
instructions for configuration on the Gmail site? I ask this only
because it is a known fact that many people have difficulty
configuring TB for POP3 to Gmail. On one Gmail discussion list that I
belong to but visit infrequently - Gmail Generation?? - there is a
special thread for helping TB users. You can also run a search on
Google to see that others have similar problems. So I'm just curious
if this might be a TB thing.

3. Can you send us a screen capture of what you currently see on your
Settings>>POP3 configuration page? This is a strange page, and after
changing the settings once, the options change the next time you go
there.

4. What was the result of your efforts to bribe your sysops?
