I thik it is just that Ritlabs, as opposed to other people such as you
and  I,  interpret  split  in a different way. I think of a horizontal
split  as  meaning a window with horizontal 'split lines'. Ritlabs use
horizontal  split  to  mean  a  horizontal  row  of panes. As far as I
remember it has always been like this; which one has the majority vote
I don't know.
