Thanks. It's very good advice. I'm behind a router, and I'm running
the software firewall Sygate. In addition to the anti-virus program
F-Secure 2005.

Although I trust tbbeta's anti-virus set-up also, I'm not willing to
download any e-mail with my anti-virus program disabled. Even though
it's quite likely that v. .16 is being interfered with by that program
in such a way as to cause the AVs.

I'm going to see if AVs happen if I click "Receive" while off-line,
using .16. I know I'll get a message "Could not connect to server."
But at least I'll have pinpointed whether it's in trying to bring up
the Connection Centre that the error happens.
