I've done a couple of test (starting from the new_icons.png file included with the betas) like changing the colour of a couple of icons and also reassigning another two icons by changing the row and column in batskin.xml. They work. However, all the unchanged icons are displayed in a quite stronger/darker colour when used by TB. See the 2 PNGs attached. Do you know what the difference may be due to?
