I'm using 6 connections as well.
In the MDaemon configuration, look in the Primary Domain settings, under the 'timers' tab and look if you have the 'Imap NOOP and IDLE...' option enabled. If so, disable it and see how things go.
That option has been a source of problems for me, especially with Mulberry.
