Hi all, RC/8 has been working so well at home that I decided to give it a run at the office this morning.
It's an interesting experience. I know that things would initially be slow since I haven't used TB! at the office for a long time and the message bases are now much different, as well as the folder names etc. TB! would therefore have a lot of catching up to do. Mulberry would just not care what's new in the folder perse, but simply fetch the newest user defined number of messages. So for my TBBETA folder that contains 6000 messages, Mulberry would have me viewing the unread messages in moments. However, TB! has to download all headers first. So it takes time. I have it set to use 4 connections, however, according to the CC, it seems to use only 2 at a time. I selected a message in TBBETA after all the headers were retrieved and nothing happened after about 20 seconds. So I checked the CC to see that the request for the message content was at the end of a very long queue of other requests that involved updating the rest of folders. I waited to see how TB! would deal with this, i.e., if it would prioritize the message content request or spawn another connection for it. It didn't. It went through the requests in roughly the order presented, doing folder header updates, a time consuming process. 15 minutes later, TB! was doing the last of the updates and was now ready to deal with the message content requests. No. The queue got stuck before it got there, so I had to delete what was left in the queue and repeat the request by selecting another message. Things have been OK since, now that the heavy task of updating the cache for the folders has been completed. I'll continue to test and report. So overall, things are MUCH improved. I was smiling at the smoothness of it, but there's need for a special thread for message content retrieval, I think. -- -=[ Allie ]=- ...
