I am quoting only part of your excellent and clear comments, just to
have a little context here within which to thank you.

I understand the issues involved a lot better now.

People who store attachments with message bodies can do that one extra
step of using "Save" and then they won't have to re-write the file
name in their text-editor/word processor application. Having it set up
this way will save potential confusion and the time potentially to be
lost in dealing with it.

Thanks a mil. This was a whole new area for me, as I have always saved
attachments separately and never ran into the issue until this week.
