This Initials Quote Prefixing is a TB! specific idiosyncrasy,
dating back to long forgotten FIDO days. IMO Ritlabs should have
dumped it years ago, together with the ridiculous Re[X]:
numbering in Reply Subjects.

I can only advice you to do as I have done: learn to live with
it. Complaining about TB! and Ritlabs on lists like TBUDL and
TBBETA doesn't makes any sense at all. Trust me.

A couple of days I installed v3.5 on my second machine, copied
all messages and settings from my current 2.12 setup backup and:
so far so good. I must admit it looks pretty OK at first sight.

Nevertheless, for the time being I will keep v2.12 as my "working
environment" and use v3.5 only for testing.
