Maybe I have expressed myself not correctly. I can also reproduce
double or triple unread-count. But if I wait for some seconds after the
displaying of an exaggerate unread-count, and if I do then a refresh,
the correct count is displayed.

I told about the slow decreasing (or increasing) as a possible cause
of the problem discussed in this thread.
