Aye, pokey tongues and smiley faces make all the difference to someone
feeling  upset  or  hurt  because of course as we all know, Emails are
read in the frame of mind of the reader, not the writer, and as theres
no  tone  of  speach  for  them to understand, they can only see their
side, so, if I wrote

Man you are stupid

It could be Im really insulting you, or, Im just being stupid, without
a :P how could you know..
