You may try to deinstall the old version first, but I'm pretty sure
that that won't help much.

The problem is that you need the old inst package to deinstall as a
custom action is called from it.

The easied way to solve the problem would be to get the old package
(that should be simple: Look up the version info in the support
information and ask Max for the MSI package) and point to it when you
get the error message.

But maybe Stuart hint works, too.
