The  tenth of second, er even a shorter time, should be better. I get more
than 10 messages/second from my pop3 server.

If  messages  were  not sorted at all, in what order would they appear? If
this  order  is "descending, sorted by receive date" then you are probably
right, it's just an accuracy issue, else it's something different.
