Not unless it is a gigabit uplink ;-)

600 MByte is a lot and it should bring down your uplink to the
Internet; but in no case it should force the server to it's knees.

600 MByte over a 5MBit/s Internet connection link would require the
server to transfer a maximum of 610 kBytes per second from the hard
disk. I haven't seen a hard disk that slow for aeons ;-)

They should transfer the full 600 MByte as well, else they don't "full
synchronize" ;-) There's no way you can't get the 600 MByte to your
client PC, except transferring them and therefore fetching them
from the servers hard disk.

*uh* IIRC I've already read other people using this server as well and
not reporting this kind of "problem", so maybe there's something in
their server setup that causes this kind of problem.

Anybody out there with a running Uw-Imap who can test the load when
big mailbox is synchronized? Would spare me to set up an Uw-Imap
server ;-)
