I haven't had any trouble like this. The only thing which has ever
caused such behavior with fastmail, in my experience, is on the rare
occasion that their server is down.

Do you also have the ability to look at your IMAP mail with your
browser, and if so can you?

Such testing at fastmail has always shown that it is their server and
I can't get on via the web, as well as with TB!.
