Thank you very much for taking the time to explain. I did know (and use)
colour groups and the "Inactive selected unread" turns out to be what I
thought it was. When I first tried out this new "enhancement", I did
something wrong which gave me the impression it didn't work; this led me to
the conclusion that perhaps "Inactive selected unread" stood for something
else, that I did not know.
After your kind reply do I still have the right to think this "enhancement"
is futile??? :-)
Perhaps that is because I (probably) use color groups in a different way than
you.

I have a few colour groups such as
- profession-related messages that need an urgent reply
- private messages that need an urgent reply
- profession-related messages that need my attention (but not an urgent
reply)
- same as above but private
and so on.
I (mostly) reread them and (almost always) reply to them from within the
virtual folders in which they are grouped. In that way I do not have to wade
through messages from different folders and/or accounts.
BTW, I don't know if others have reported this, the new "enhanced" version
has messed with the colors in my colour groups: "selected" and "selected
unread" of all (other) groups have (without any intervention from my part)
copied the colouring scheme of the first colour group in the list.
