Yes. I know they are, but I'm referring to how TB! displays what it
has done locally. In Mulberry, a strike through occurs. In TB! the
message is removed from the Index file and hence disappears from the
list.

Unfortunately, if something goes wrong with the IMAP command being
sent and applied server side, the message remains removed from the
local caches index file, but no deletion has occurred on the server.
I've experienced this many times.

Another possibility is expunging. You compress locally and the
corresponding expunge command is sent. Something goes wrong with the
expunge command and the messages aren't expunged. However, the
messages have been removed from the local cache. This isn't so common
for me anymore. However, it still happens.

I'm wondering if it wouldn't be better if the server action is sent
and verified prior to actions being performed on the local cache.

This is what I'm thinking too. <shrug> I can only speculate though.
