Create a new view mode (e.g. OnlySender that shows only the sender), add it to the Message list pane, delete that View mode (OnlySender) in the Options, Settings, View mode. That specific view mode remains in the message list tabs, and do nothing. You may delete it in the Options, Settings, Tabs pane.
