Yes, this bug has been in The Bat since the character set processing rewrite of some time ago. I guess this was around 3.5.x or so? For some reason it always switched back to courier New if it couldn't handle the charset translation with your configured font (I use Lucida Console myself), but these later changes made the displaying buggy...
