Irrelevant. We're talking about one single e-mail client out of
hundreds that we want left alone from all the fluff, glitz and
security holes. There are boatloads of e-mail clients out there that
do show you images. Use one of them... Heck most of them are free!
What's wrong with people having the ability to plunk down their
hard-earned money for an e-mail client that the developers are
designing with security as a forethought rather than an afterthought.
You have the choice of many, many e-mail clients out there that are
full of holes and vulnerabilities. Can't you just leave one well
enough alone so that the minority of us security focused people can be
happy too?

Apparently not.

Because their customers demanded it. They want the glitz, the fluff
and the eye-candy without regard to security.

So I send you an e-mail using the e-mail address of your bank
referencing an image on my server. Now what?

That's why RITLabs wrote their own HTML rendering engine. So now they
spend time making sure they can render everyone's HTML markup with
less time spent on fixing IMAP and other bugs. People wanted HTML
e-mail, but at least true to their word, RITLabs did their best to
ensure the integrity and security of TB.
