I tried that out now. Indeed, on the outset it seemed to work as
intended.

But here expected and observed behaviour differ: The tab will stay
selected when changing folders, but the assigned view mode is not
activated, same as when changing view modes manually.
So the sequence is like this:
- in folder A, change tab to "view mode small"
-> display will change
- select other folder
-> tab "small" is still selected, but folder B is shown with generic
view mode ("large")
- select tab "large" (in folder B) (actually called "All")
-> no change
- select tab "small" (in folder B)
-> view mode changed to small
Even when selecting a folder that has been set to tab (and thus view
mode) "small" for a second time the view mode isn't activated until
there has been a cycle through the tabs.
