Thanks Roelof, that makes sense. I've tested it here and it works in just the way that describe. Maybe the description of the option needs changing, since the other options on that tab seem to act outside of the address book. Even though it's doesn't appear to be a bug I would be in favour of changing it's function in the way that Jon describes.
