Got it :))

So, please support/confirm it:
https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/view.php?id=5656

Summary 0005656:
Bug in Account, Properties, Transport, SMTP, Authentication... window

Description: TB tries to use sec. auth., when "Use specific settings"
is set and "Require secure auth" is checked on the "Same user/password
as for Mail Retrieval" panel.

There are two "Require secure auth" checkbox on that window, one for
"Use specific settings" and one for "Same user/password as for Mail
Retrieval". If any of them is checked, TB! tries to sec. auth.

Steps To Reproduce:
Using e.g. a GMail account (that requires SMTP auth):

Account, Properties, Transport, SMTP, Authentication... window:

1. Perform SMTP auth, checked
Use specific settings, put your user name and password in
Require secure auth, not checked

Mail can be sent. OK.

2. Perform SMTP auth, checked
Use specific settings, put your user name and password in
Require secure auth, checked

Mail CANNOT be sent. OK.

3. And now the bug:
"Perform SMTP auth, checked"
Select the "Same user/password as for Mail Retrieval"
Check "Require secure auth"
Now check the "Use specific settings", put your user name and password in
"Require secure auth", NOT checked

Try to send mail. Mail CANNOT be sent.

I think, the cause is, that there are two "Require secure auth"
checkbox. One at the "Same user/password as for Mail Retrieval" and
one for the "Use specific settings". And either one is checked, sec
auth will be used when we set "Use specific settings".

Solution: there should be only ONE "Require secure auth" checkbox, and
its state should decide if sec auth needed or not, independent from if
"Same user/password as for Mail Retrieval" or "Use specific settings".
is selected.
