I will try getting a fresh copy and see if it will make an installation that launches okay. But that experiment will have to wait until tomorrow. I have to go out in an hour or so, and it takes too long to clean up the mess from a bad installation--if the experiment should not work. Of course, I fervently hope that it's only local to me.
