As people such as you have contributed their thoughts, my understanding of the issue I was facing has been refined (mostly corrected, actually). And, by the way, I was operating with administrative rights when I was making the changes, of course. As it turned out, my problems were actually not so much with the un-install/re-install process as with the residual, corrupt message base files and how the new installation failed because of them. The text of the message in this dialog ... http://img520.imageshack.us/my.php?image=uninstalldialogth5.png ... implies that message base would be removed during the un-install. That is apparently not correct if the installation is an OTFE install or if the user chose to install the message base in some "non-standard" location. As a result of the several comments people have made to this thread, I've come to think the actual problem is how TB! handles the situation where a file in the message base is corrupt. As Peter, I think it was, said, it would be preferable if TB! gave a message to the effect, "I've encountered a problem using the existing message base. Would you like to start the program without that message base? Yes/No/Cancel." That way, one could get into the program and restore from a backup. An even more elegant solution, as a secondary trouble shooting step, might be to allow accessing the message base one account at a time and then one folder at a time until you encountered the "problem" account or folder, but that might be a bit much to ask. -- Regards, Perry Using The Bat! v3.81.14 Beta on Windows XP 5.1 Build 2600 Service Pack 2 ________________________________________________________ Current beta is 3.81.14 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html IMPORTANT: To register as a Beta tester, use this link first - http://www.ritlabs.com/en/partners/testers/
