It doesn't matter what I think. I was explaining that there IS a protocol for numbering software. I SPECIFICALLY said it didn't mean a total rewrite but the decimals "usually" indicate the approximate amount of code AFFECTED. Whole number increments are new versions - I didn't even TRY to imply that they threw out all there old code and started fresh (Really!) Ritlabs could decide that all is ready and take this very release and rename it 4.0 and release it as a new version But since you asked what I think my answer is YES most big companies are in compliance and follow it fairly closely. It is not a set of rules but rather guidelines.
