But that's not what I want. I want to be able to have no text selected
so that I can reply to a message without any quotes at all, which I
sometimes do. Before version 39.08.09 this is what F4 did. Now it quotes
the whole message if no text is selected but it does quote only the
selected text if any is selected.

Good for you, each to their own. I prefer the short cut keys in this
instance.
