Hello all,

No my friend, as in other issues you've talked about in this list, you
are wrong. As I have just written in a note added to your BT report, you
only need TWO filters no matter the number of developers you communicate
with. I'll explain.
- Assume you have 500 developers you communicate with. What do I say
500? Let's say 5000.
- You seem to be smart and bright, but I have to assume you wouldn't
easily remember 5000 names and email addresses. So, I would assume you
have all of them in an AB (Address Book).
- Now let's also assume that, because you also deal with many suppliers,
many clients, etc., you have created AB Groups for 'Developers',
'Suppliers', 'Clients', etc., and have assigned each AB entry to the
proper Group.
- With so much correspondence, I would assume you want to keep your
message base organised separating apples from oranges and you have
created a 'Developers' folder, a 'Suppliers' one, a 'Clients' one, etc.
Now to the filters:
Create a new Incoming filter.
- Call it Developers
- Set the Conditions to:
Address groups Developers contains Sender
- And the actions to:
Move to the folder \\Account\Developers\%ABFromName
Important!: When in the 'Move Message to a Folder' dialog, don't
forget to select (tick) the 'Automatically create if necessary'
tick box.
Create a new Outgoing filter.
- Call it Developers
- Set the Conditions to:
Address groups Developers contains first recipient
- And the actions to:
Move to the folder \\Account\Developers\%ABFromName
(don't forget the 'Automatically create if necessary' tick box)
And that is all is needed my friend, a little 'organisation' and a
couple of filters. You can create similar filter pairs for your
Suppliers, Clients, etc.
As I assume you have gathered by now, the 'magic' is in the fact that
you can use some macros when defining the folder path for the move to
folder action. I have used '%ABFromName' to end up with a sub-folder
(with the name of each developer) under the Developers folder (or
Suppliers, etc.) for each of the corresponding entries in AB and Group.
I personally use a slightly different set-up with three filters instead
of two. I don't use the Incoming filter, just the standard 'Known' one
so that received messages from people in my AB will all be moved to my
Inbox-Known folder. But I have a (similar in conditions and action) Read
and Replied filter so that when I mark a message as Read (which I do
manually) or reply to it, the message is moved from Inbox-Known to its
corresponding folder/sub-folder.
So yes, I must agree that TB is not smart enough to "break" the Windows
limitation of only being able to select one option from a standard menu
(so that, for example, you could delete several attachments from the
Attachments button/menu) but it can do some other quite fancy things.
Don't you think? ;-)
