I think I am missing something here. When you say "message list on" or "message list off," I don't know to what you are referring.
I use the "common" three pane view - folder list full height on the top left, message list for the selected folder on the upper right, and message preview on the lower half of the screen.
I have not found a menu item to turn the message list (do you mean top right pane?) on or off.
Can you help here?
