That I know of, there is not a place where you can easily tick a box to select the your default. But this what I did when profiles where introduced to do exactly what you want. I wanted to keep somewhere the layout (fonts, colours, etc.) of the default <Generic profile>. So, I created a new profile that I called 'Was default' with exactly the same settings the Generic one had. I then modified the <Generic profile> to my preferred fonts, colours, etc., and I was (and am) a happy man. :) Please notice that if you modify <Generic profile> this will affect also the Editor as it is the default profile there.
