As far as I know on most of my accounts in the Bat! even the unread
messages are removed. But in order for that to happen, you need to go
properties of the account>Mail Management>Deletion
and check 'Purge Unread Messages'.
It works for me, though I haven't tested in the latest version, it
always has in the past.
