There is an addon for the bat helpfile[1] which allows me to evaluate the
things you wrote quite easily (I can directly see how much subpatts there
are and how they're numbered). This way, I can be sure to have the right
RegExp (well, I think I have ;-)). The problem here seems to be more like
how I can insert the matched text into the body of the mail again - not
finding the right regular expression itself.

This is _nearly_ what I wanted - except from the '> ' before 'John
Smith', the newline and the '> ' before 'Wed'.
