I tried it out: One plain text e-mail with 1000 characters and one
html e-mail with the same contents and no great formatting. The
result:

 Plain Text: 1020 Bytes     (all numbers without counting the
 HTML Mail:  2373 Bytes      headers)

 = 132% more or 232% of the size of the text-only e-mail
