Hi all,

I was having a problem today with checking mail on one of the mail
servers for an account that I use. The mail server is running this
POP3 daemon - Cubic Circle's v1.31 1998/05/13 POP3 (At least that's
what it reports.)

I did a packet capture after noticing that the Connection Center
showed that TB consistently hung on this one account when trying to
check it. According to the packets, I connected, got an OK response
from the server, sent username, got an OK on USER, sent the password
and got one packet (it usually sends two to complete the
acknowledgement) of a response back from the server.

My settings for the account were "Leave messages on server for 1 day."
I know that I had two e-mails from the previous day so I thought that
perhaps this might have been the problem so I tried to use the
Dispatch mail on server and I still got the same connection problem -
only one packet of a two packet acknowledgement was returned. I
changed the settings to delete mail from server and I connected and
everything worked correctly this time. I got the two packet response.
I also got the same two e-mails I downloaded from yesterday again.
Shouldn't those e-mails have just been deleted and not downloaded
again?

When I looked at the Connection Center and TB was checking multiple
accounts, including the one that I was having problems with, the
Connection Center status message was the same for all accounts but it
was different when I only connected to the one problem account. Sorry,
but I didn't write them down. "Checking mail" was the message for all
and I believe "Logon something" was the message for the problem
account alone.

I have now put the option to "keep messages on server" back on the
account and checking the account works fine now.

BTW, the two messages were messages from Yahoogroups and one had a
.msg attachment (very small). I've kept the packets and the two
emails if anybody wants to take a look at them. Let me know and I'll
forward them privately. Hope this helps someone figure out what the
problem is.

Terry
