Hi all. I am hoping you can help me fix what appears to me to be a very unusual problem.
For years Desktop “A” served as the location for the data files for The Bat! for both my installation of The Bat! and my wife's installation of The Bat! on Laptop “B.” I also have a new laptop we will call Laptop “C." In order to be able to travel with my new laptop and have full mail accessibility, I decided to untether all use of The Bat! from Desktop A. I installed The Bat! on to C and copied the data directory from A to C. In addition, I copied the data directory from A to B and then changed the properties of all the mail accounts on Laptop B to point to the new data directory on laptop B. (With these changes I made sure that all mail stays on the server for 90 days in order to ensure that the same mail gets downloaded to both laptops.) I no longer download mail to A. All this time, Desktop A has remained functional and stays on. However, it is no longer used for mail. The Bat! has been functioning normally on both laptops ever since data files were transferred to them nearly two months ago On Friday, my wife was using The Bat! on her laptop, when she received an error message that stated: Failed to create working directory. \\Desktop A\c\MAIL\ I discovered that A had been shut down. Once A is booted, The Bat! can be opened on B. The Bat! has been functioning without any problem on C, whether A is on or not, however, I never used C while pointing to A for the mail directory as I did with B. The data directory for The Bat! on B shows dates for April 25 (the last day The Bat! was used on B before A was shut down) while the data directory on A shows the last date for any file being March 9, 2014, the date files were copied to B and C. I checked all 21 mail accounts on B and they all show in the properties that the data files are all located on B. So, why does the “working directory” need to be on “A” in order for The Bat! on B to work? Is there an elegant way to change the "working directory" from "A" to "B"? Do I need to uninstall The Bat! on B and then resinstall it in order to ensure that use of this application is completely untethered from A?
