I don't know about the double save which would be a flaw in
security.
But you have the possibility in PGP to encrypt the messages to
yourself in the same time as to your friends : with this, you can
uncrypt the messages you sent.
In PGP 6.02i : PGP Preferences | General | Allways encrypt to
default key CHECKED (first item in "Encryption and Signing
Preferences"

Editor Preferences | General | Overwrite Blocks CHECKED (in
Blocks, top right of the popup window)
