Hello The Bat! developers,
I'm using The Bat! Version 1.36 (as well as the latest Beta)
under Windows NT 4.0 Build 1381 Service Pack 4
and would like to report a bug
The bug description:
TheBat doesn't handle "From " lines in the message body
Actions affected:
- import from/export to UNIX mailboxes
- getting mail via POP3 (never tried IMAP)
Due to the Unix message box format, where a new message starts
with a line starting with the five characters "From ", lines in
the message body that start with the same magic characters are
normally escaped with a '>'.
TheBat should do this when exporting to UNIX mailboxes (and
unescape when importing)
Some mailservers (eg sendmail) can do (and do) this escaping too
(because their spoolfile is in the same messagebox format?) and
then the POP3 server doesn't unescape back.
I'm not sure where this escaping is specified (couldn't find any
documentation of the messagebox format except in the Help file of
Fort Agent)
Steps to reproduce the bug:
- export the sent mail from above to a Unix messagebox and reimport
it: the line "From somewhere" and all following lines are
missing
- send a mail containing a line starting with "From somewhere" to
a conforming mailserver (eg sendmail) adressed to yourself. The
received line shows as ">From somewhere"
Regards,
Peter Steiner
