Unfortunately  it  works  only within a folder. I would like to have a
keystroke  to  jump  to next unread message across folders and I don't
care  whether  to  change functionality of Ctrl-][ shortcuts or to add
new ones.

Single  letter (with not Ctrl or Alt applied) do activate quick search
feature.
