Hello Ali Martin,
On Mon, 27 Dec 1999 at 10:26:52 [GMT -0500] your local time which
was Monday, December 27, 1999 22:26:52 [GMT +0700] my local time,
you told to the list:
AM> [....]
>> According to Wintune, to have better "memory management", we can set
>> our PC as "Network Server" (or something like that) instead of
>> "Desktop/Stand Alone".
AM> Yes, that's right. I had used that setting as well. It's been such
AM> a long time since really using win98. My wife has win98 installed
AM> on her machine but I don't really do much with it personally. It's
AM> yet to crash after 4 months. Hmmm. :))
Seems you already tweaking your PC well :-).
There are other thing that may affect The Bat! performance, especially
for LAN user (who have own Mail Server in LAN), i.e. host name
(Computer Name) setting and order of DNS server.
In windows, sometimes we have different host name (Computer Name) we
set in Windows Identification Name and TCP/IP setting. Long time ago,
sometimes my The Bat! crash or freeze if downloading around 300-400
messages (it happen every morning, though), till I realize that my
computer have different name than my host name.
DNSserver setting order also affect response time when we try to "get
/check/delivery mail". If we have own DNSserver at our LAN, better to
put the ip address of our DNSserver at first, then ISP's DNSserver
(sometimes we need it, if we are behind proxy server which not have
good DNS cache/forwarder.
