Question: are you sure you even _need_ to log on to your SMTP server?
Most SMTP servers don't require a logon, instead they just don't
accept mails from outside their own network/domain, usually, but as
long as you're logged on there, it's fine.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I don't know Operamail...

...

Just had a look at the web pages... Are you sure they even _have_ an
SMTP server? Just wondering about that part about "Do you support
POP3/IMAP4? -this is not officially supported - we cannot provide you
with any support regarding POP3 or IMAP4." on their FAQ page...

OK, still going - this is turning into stream of consciousness, sorry!
;]

I tried telneting to www.operamail.com:25, and the problem I was
having was that I could not get it to accept a RCPT TO: command
because it "refused to relay on behalf of <>", indicating that I
either need to log on or have connected from a host in Opera's
network. Since the HELP of the ESMTP 3.6 server does not mention
anything about logon commands, I'm a little lost, but guessing that
you need to come from within their domain to use that SMTP server...
Try another one, like CompuServe's: smtp.site1.csi.com - that one
usually works (although lately it seems to have been hiccupy ;] ). No
logon or anything needed.

I think the Opera browser identifies itself differently and is thus
allowed to use the SMTP server... somehow...
