I had similar (and other) problems with the SMTP server of this
account. (Are you using Strato too?) I couldn't solve it but I have a
workaround:
Get an account at a free POP-mail service that also offers SMTP
(www.flashmail.com has proven quite reliable for me) or use whatever
your ISP offers. Set the SMTP to this and authenticate if nessecary.
Works all fine.
