It depends on how it's interpreted. The written word is devoid of the
benefits of facial expression (somewhat dealt with with the smileys) and
voice based innuendo's. He was quite justified in interpreting it the way
that he did although I agree that it could have been taken differently.

A major part of a discussion involves clarifying points of view
because it's uncommon to be able to fully bring across one's POV or what
one means, with everyone understanding it completely, on the first go. May
I suggest that you further explain what you really meant instead of
pouncing on his reaction to what you wrote initially. :)

A lot of the more vocal subscribers to this list are computer savvy
and are therefore quite rare. They are usually bright and accustomed to
being listened to rather than refuted. They are, as Jast so aptly put it,
used to *making* the points and not being asked to *get* the points. :))
