This one is pretty easy to explain. Almost every Windows program makes
a working copy of data in the C:\Windows\Temp folder (or whichever
folder you have designated as the Windows Temp folder.) This is so
that you don't mangle the original file accidentally. i.e. a
CTRL-ALT-DEL etc.

Because you had to reset your machine, TB hadn't fully finished
downloading your new mail and importing it (moving from the temp files
to your mail account files.) The reason that later on, you were able
to download these messages again, is that TB doesn't tell the mail
server to delete the received messages until it has downloaded them
all. In fact, if you were to hit the Cancel button during mail
download, you'll see a message stating that TB hasn't gotten all the
mail yet, and messages might (will) be duplicated on the next
download.

Never fear though. TB is doing what it should to ensure you don't get
corrupted message bases due to program hangs and such.
