Yes, this is correct MUA (Mail User Agent) behaviour. MUA could choose
between a:
- fully-qualified domain name (domain.tld or <something>.domain.tld;
<something> could be a virtual hostname, especially when using a so-called
MX-domain);
- originator's machine name (host.domain.tld).

For example, this message will have something like

Message-ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

in headers. Nevertheless, my machine name is andris.athome.net.ru.
