You've found my major point of criticism on the ticker thingy. I, too,
would like it to somehow append the messages that come in while I'm
still reading to the virtual folder.

Oops, but anyway, the way I am dealing with it, is: close the virtual
folder after reading all msgs, double-click on the mail ticker to open
a new virtual folder. :-(
