What do you mean by "touching". If you mean just hovering the mouse
without clicking, I cannot confirm this behaviour. Nothing happens
over here.

Wow. The message appears as a pop-up window, or as a giant tooltip?

Sure. You left-click once on the message in the message list, and the
message appears in the preview pane.
