Do not dread, as in: don't mind the flames? Or don't get the flames?
Anyway, I think it is in order to apologize when you make a mistake.
There are people who drop spam in lists in purpose, you know, and
those are bad people. But mistakes happen, and an apology will clarify
which kind the sender is. ;-)
