I would really recommend using the cyrus-imapd server. It is a very
stable system, not too complicated to setup and is doing well. We are
using it since almost a year without major troubles. Combined with a
firewall system in front of it which is forwarding mails to and from
Internet (our provider) via UUCP and then delivering to the local
mail-server (cyrus-imapd) which is used internally also. Additionally
we use domain masqerading and network address translation.

Some users ask me if I did already receive their mail (in the Inbox).
So if I check new mail and did not receive it so far then I found them
using the "mail dispatch" feature.
These messages are bold and marked as "received", no more checkboxes
are checked.

yes, I do use "leave mails on server"

I didn't even know there is something like that. i am going to try
that.
We do definitely wait for support of the IMAP4rev1 protocol in order
to have (more) at least some control over server based "public"
folders and in case of data backup.
