  I don't think you can. If a message has just the time it indicates
  that it was sent the present day at that time. Messages that were
  sent yesterday and before will be dated.

  If you leave todays messages with just the time on until tomorrow
  you should find that they will be dated and not timed... If that
  makes sense?
